My wicked heart.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - Proverbs 4:23
How important it is for our hearts to be guarded and to be set upon our Lord. But I have not the strength to obey my Lord! In fact, my own heart tricks me! I am utterly disturbed at how well my heart hides my sin! Truly,
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” - Jeremiah 17:9
There should be no one else that knows my own heart better than me! And yet, I can’t even trust my heart! Where can I go?! …Praise God for Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” - Psalm 73:26
Truly, because I can’t even trust my own heart, I must lift it up to God and trust Him with my heart. There is great truth in that song “Come Thou Fount.” Because my heart is truly, “Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.” And in response we trust God and God alone with our hearts. We never trust ourselves, lest we be deceived. “Here’s my heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it for they courts above.”
